Rubber Bridge Social

"And I've still got 13 cards left!"

“One no trump.” “Two clubs.” “Double.” “Double?” “Oh, thank you. Single malt please!” - Yes, it was the Burns Night U3A Bridge Social.

"Double!"                                "I wish I was playing dummy"

Twenty-two members assembled for an evening of sociable bridge at Stone Station. Quiet concentration was the order as the cards were dealt, then the odd giggle, then some chatter, a stern “Shush!” then more giggles. “That was a quick rubber!” “Well we’re not used to playing with each other.” Eyebrows raised, heads turned. Was this a story for News of the World? More giggles. “Tea anyone?”

The level of play was at the ‘enjoyable’ level. No dirty tricks. No troubled waters. No dummies spit. No partners strangled. Everyone agreed they were looking forward to a next meeting.

Annual Social

At the Annual Social, held on Jan 16th, 2010, at St Dominic's Priory Hall, we were fortunate to have 9 members of The Cheadle U3A Sweet Melody Dreamboat Band providing music to dance to.  A fabulous caterer called Felicity Bowers & a licenced bar, courtesy of Margery Nicholls, from the Red Lion at Milwich.

The entertainment was very varied, with a quiz supplied by Annabel & Bruce Evans. A fun game provided by Averil & John Rogers and Irish Bingo run by Gill & Tony Swift. Spot waltzes, a raffle & a ticket number prize all added to the overall enjoyment of everyone.

Table decorations donated by Pam Beamond were raffled towards the end of the evening & additional light music from Ted Thane's CD's, gave everyone an opportunity to join in the fun. I would like to thank everyone who helped make this a great evening.
